Katie Tolin is a former in-house marketer turned consultant with a drive for helping firms execute successful growth strategies. She has more than 20 years of professional service marketing experience including five years in legal marketing before she made the smart move to accounting marketing. Prior to forming CPA Growth Guides in 2015, she worked at local, regional, super-regional and national firms with offices in a variety of locations from major metropolitan areas to Amish communities and everything in-between.
Today, Katie helps CPA firms connect the dots between strategy and tactics. From helping set a growth strategy to coaching partners on niche development to serving as an outsourced CMO, Katie uses data to help firms find the best opportunities for growth. Growth becomes easier to understand and achieve when firms understand what they are selling, to whom and how. It’s simple to say, but harder to figure out, and Katie helps firms do just that.
A past president of the Association for Accounting Marketing, Katie was twice named to Accounting Today’s top 100 most influential people in accounting list (2013, 2014) and was One to Watch in 2012, and she was one of CPA Practice Advisors’ Most Powerful Women in Accounting (2014). An inductee into the Accounting Marketing Hall of Fame (2016), Katie is a former Accounting Marketer the Year (2010) and has won a total of 12 Marketing Achievement Awards from the Association for Accounting Marketing. Katie is also a contributing author to Bulls-Eye: The Ultimate How-To Marketing & Sales Guide for CPAs.
Katie’s earliest entrepreneurship opportunities came in high school through the Junior Achievement Company program, and she continues to support Junior Achievement of East Central Ohio today as a board member, past chair and volunteer. She’s also a proponent of preserving outdoor space and serves as a Starks Parks Ambassador sharing all the county park system has to offer.
She’s a graduate of Ohio Northern University’s College of Business Administration and holds a master’s in communication from Emerson College in Boston.
